Following potato blight
« on: September 07, 2009, 14:19 »
Hi - can anyone advise on a good crop to grow in a patch of land that has had potato blight the previous year? Obviously not potatoes or tomatoes!

Blight is plant specific so any other plants would be fine
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

You would plant something else there in any case purely by rotating your crops.

Blight will not remain in the ground, unless you've overlooked some spuds in there, it is airborne and needs plant material to live on.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

agh blight. Annoying beast! All my outdoor tomatoes got them and the foliage on the remaining spuds.

Fortunately, though, the maris pipers were fine after cutting the blighted leaves off and leaving the spuds in the ground for a couple of weeks - picked a load today for roasting. So I will dig out the rest in the next few weeks.
