Invasive bamboo removal
« on: July 30, 2006, 18:21 »
Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can remove this? it is an extremely invasive type and last time I tried to kill it off it just sent runners out (some over 2 meters long!) and started popping up and invading other bits of garden. As it is lifting concrete flagstones on it's way to invade my veg patch I'd like to be permanently rid of it, so any suggestions, no matter how odd will be appreciated ;)
?I am not in this world to live up to other people's expectations, nor do I feel that the world must live up to mine.?

Try amicide, especially at where you see the runners popping up. It should take the poison all the way back to its source, I think I've heard anyway.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

I'd go with that - it's approved for organic use to clear brushwood so it should work well on bamboo. Do remember you can't plant for about 8 weeks after using it, but we're nearing the end of the season for planting anyway.

I used Amicide successfully to kill off invasive bamboo.  Only problem is, its the neighbours bamboo and he doesn't seem to want to do anything about it and it keeps coming back.  And it has lifted the flags on my patio and damaged my large wooden wendy house and decking.   :x
Total beginner - please bear with me if I ask daft questions!!

I know somebody who had a sasa bamboo in a pot. It escaped through the drainage hole and came up ten feet away out of the tarmac...
Look on the bright side. I paid 35 quid for a small chusquea bamboo and it died. You will never have that happen...
