Believe nettles don't sting when they're in flower.  Not had the courage to try touching them without gloves but a friend of mine uses it as a party trick

All little boys fall in the nettles. Its a little boy thing. But even little boys learn to keep away from the nettles. Eventually.

Very philosophical! I like that!

But little boys who grow up into Centurions don't worry about such trivialities as nettles.

And I know of little girls who stepped into them once, never since.

Yeah I must admit, I've never worn a dress, so they haven't bothered me too much.  :D

They'll be what they call "dead nettles"  Look identical but no sting.

Too true they dont sting.  I use a product called Grazon to get rid of nettles if i have too many. It also works brilliantly on weeds but not on grass!  It is quite expensive but goes a long way as you have to dilute it in 5 gallons of water.

I heard that if you crush nettle leaves the sap from these helps with the sting.  The only thing is you'd probably get stung trying to do this ha ha

I forget which side of the leaf contains the stinging hairs, but you can grab them from the other side I think without getting stung.

Please can someone give us some advice on how to remove nettles from our plot. They are growing up the side of our shed, and are in amongst the patch of raspberries we inherited. Our 4 year old son keeps falling in them   so they have to go!!

You can use nettles to make a very good liquid fertiliser. pull them up or cut them back. Chop them up and stick them in a large plastic container, add water, cover the top to allow it to ferment for about seven days, longer if weather cold, should turn a dark brown colour. Put the liquor into your watering can and give your veggies or flowers a good watering. You can then use the spent nettles on your compost!

nettle and spud is lovely too. Young tops are used

My mum used to make nettle and dandelion beer, brewed up in an old copper.  It tasted very lemony  :D
