I cannot stand olives and I live in the land of the olive tree.  Every supermarket has them loose as well as in jars.  I have tried to persevere but they dont work for me.  I think it is a bit like marmite, you either love it or hate it.

Roast peppers with tomatoes, olives and anchovies - need I say more?
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

we don't buy the olives but get given a load and i have to say I'm not a big fan hubby likes them but i make olive pate as i like to call it olives blitzed with garlic and a little pepper , or chillies sometimes pop in the fridge and its great on toast or crackers , the oil that comes out is nice to drizzle on things salad and so on .

I LOVE olives.   I have an olive tree (indoors), pop it out in the summer for a couple of months to get some sun.   It is about 12 years old.   Was wondering if anyone can tell me if it would be ok to put it outdoors in a permanent position?   Never gets too cold here, bit of ice occasionally mid winter, but generally pretty good.   If I cover it up with fleece during cold periods, do you reckon it will survive alright.  Also, do you think it will ever get olives as not had any up to now :?:

I can't abide olives myself, but if you will persist in growing them (    ), I believe that the main problem in the UK is the wet rather than the cold; they don't like standing in wet ground.

However, not being an expert, don't just take my word for it!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I love them stuffed with garlic cloves, or marinated for a week in red wine vinegar, thyme, garlic, peppercorns and chilli and some olive oil, even if you don't eat the olives the marinade is yum with some nice bread.

I bought a 4ft olive tree 5 years ago and planted it against the house wall in a south facing courtyard. Its gone ballistic. It is now about 15ft high and it gets covered in black shiney olives. I hate them but the local blackbird population go bonkers over them. Its a handsome tree though I dont mind growing it.
Oh for those halcyon days of England long ago
