Hello,
Does anyone use Derris powder to control Red Mite and is it effective? It is much cheaper to buy than the powder offered by the local farm shop,
Regards,
Stoko

Yeah, I thought it was banned too.  I know it used to be used for garden pests like aphids, but would never use it near my chooks, sorry about that!  Cheap is not always cheerful!!!

Mind you, saying that, just found this on DEFRA site dated Jan 2009!!

A small number of pesticides are approved for organic use (principally copper, sulphur, natural pyrethroids, and derris), but they tend to be used as a last resort and the last two are either only permitted for use in protected cropping or for a restricted range of horticultural crops. With the exception of sulphur on certain top fruit crops and pyrethroid sheep dip (which is used in the same

But only in connection to crops, not chooks.

i wouldn't use it. shop around if your local farm shop is too expensive. tell them that too. there's a recession on.
