Checked today and very poor only a hand full of fruit off about twenty plants.
They did quite well last year summer and autum plants.
Again I put it down to a lack of insects to pollinate the flowers .
I have only seen one cabbage white butterfly this year (they must just avoid my plot flying over the netting)
One thing that is growing lots of fruit is all the brambles round the edge of the plots .

Definitely right about the blackberries, John! They're huge!

I reckon that some other veg like toms are also not getting bees etc to do the business as well - perhaps the timing is awry this year.

We are getting the cabbage whites though, and they've learnt to get through the larger nets we use...

Plot74 - I am somewhat south of you but I have had the best summer-fruiting crop ever, despite not cutting last year's canes down, or feeding this year, or keeping free of weeds in spring, tying them in or even using netting (due to illness). I have a lot of new canes for next year too. We have had a lot of rain and cold winds (I live on the flat about 1/2 mile from the sea) so I don't know what's gone on. Sorry - not bragging, just puzzled.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
