Hi all have now had my girls for 2 weeks and love them more than I ever loved th ex husband
I just wondered though if I'm normal. I have to tell everyone that I meet that I keep chickens, completely random people in the street, on the bus, in the supermarket!!!!!
Is this normal, will I grow out of it

ummm nope

Well I think so too Min200, however the people in my area apparently are not chicken lovers (I don't understand how!!) and therefore I just tend to get very strange looks and silence.
-
Thats because they are all a bit odd!
Not liking chickens indeed ::)
-
I'm the same, can bore for England on chickens, and my girls in particular.
-
I was when I saw someone from work at the local market that I realised I might be a little strange. I just mentioned that I had been able to get a bag of cauliflower leaves for free from the veg stall for the chickens and she said 'oh you and your chickens' in an exasperated tone. Surely they are not fed up of hearing about them are they?!!
-
I really think I'm going to have re-evaluate my friends and family!
Love me and my chickens or be gone
-
I talk about my chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, cats, dog and snakes to anyone that will listen!!!!!!
I did a training course a few months back on presentation skills, my 20 min presentation was on the life cycle of an egg, from being laid to hatching a chick, 20 mins really wasn't long enough!!!!! I could have gone on for at least anothe hour!
-
Nails I'm so glad its not just me. I'm at uni doing mental health nursing (nothing chicken related there) and we had to do an impromptu presentation on any subject we chose last week. I delighted my fellow students with a ten min chat on my girls including their likes dislikes bedtime etc. Never have I had so many strange looks!!!!

You are perfectly normal and no you will not grow out of it
-
Thank you Joyfull :)
I shall accept that the chickens are now the love of my life and therefore I may talk about them to whomever and whenever I wish ::)
-
thats exactly what I do, and I chat to turkeys, ducks and geese ;)
-
 Grace (age 4 just) told a random child in the Doctors surgery - 'I have chickens' brain washed at such a young age.
I blurted it out to 2 men in House of Fraser today.... there was a picture of 3 eggs in the department store and well grace said that ones 'selinas egg' that one is 'purdys egg' and that one is 'biscuits egg' and these two men looked at her as if she had gone mad. We then breezed passed them and i blurted out dont worry we have chickens...... did this make it better no they still look mighty puzzled .... ::) :D

The subject of choox is banned at my work... , until they want fresh eggs of course...THEN they talk chicken! ::)
I cant tlk about them as much as I'd like, so I talk to them...for HOURS, and even THEY look at me oddly

Uh Oh its spreading. My 9 year old daughter and her Nan took the dog out for a walk, and my daughter proceeded to stop every passer by and tell them we had chickens. ::)
There is no going back now
-
What makes you think that might not be normal ::)
-
Aunt Sally I now think its perfectly normal and wonderful, its all the non chicken lovers who appear to have a problem ::)
We are chicken lovers and proud
-
PS why do you want to be normal? Normal = average = boring! ::) Be different, be happy! :D
-
Here here to that Madcat ::)
-
 This site is brilliant!! My neighbour phoned her husband at work to tell him I'd got hens!! :)
-
ummm nope
Don't be daft Looby. Of course it's normal for pet hen keepers ::) ::) ::)
-
'NORMAL' is a cycle on a washing machine, and who wants to be that? :D
I love my chickens, i tell everyone i know i love my chickens, im not ashamed to say it,
all you have to do is pretend you dont see the 'glazed over' expression people have when you tell them in every little detail about your girls very funny and interesting day, they really do want to know, they just hide it well......and there is always here, a safe haven for people who love their pet chickens :D
-
I've always been considered wooky - now more so than ever - can't stop talking about them    So I guess its a case of join the clan................
-
The people I work with say it must be like The Good Life at our house - raised beds, chickens and allotment as well..........I just smile and say I'm practising for when I have my small holding ;)
Got a couple of them interested though and one of my friends at work is getting her chicks this week. She's getting 2 White Sussex and a Plymouth Rock and I've promised to be on hand for lunchtime visits to show her how tis done.
