We caught a storm today. It didn’t last long but we got the full works, with mad hail at one point.

It was quite sunny and pleasant for the rest of the afternoon after that.

Hi, I own some land in the centre of Cheltenham which is currently unused, I would like to turn it into an allotment as it would be productive and help me maintain it.  The land is secure being surrounded by buildings and behind a locked door.

I'm seeking advice about what permissions/planning is necessary to get this plot used a legitimate allotment.  I'm hoping to find an allotment owner / manager who has been through this process.

Please drop me a note if you are able to give some advice.

John

We haven't had any rain for a long while and today is a pleasant 22c.  The wind is still a chilly NE, so perhaps it will change with the storms that threaten. My living areas both in and out face south, so it is all good.

mumofstig....what variety were you growing?
Last year when the allotments here  suffered with potato blight, my neighbours Cara didn`t get a sniff of it.

MetO says it's 18C & sunny, but in reality, it's raining and 17C

15C in the g/house overnight, it's almost empty now - except for Fred sitting on MY chair  ::)

Update: the sun came out at about 12.30, so some washing on the line now, should dry as it is quite breezy.

Our old plot has never been worked but they keep paying the rent and the council don't seem to be kicking anyone off. I left them fruit bushes, raspberries, rhubarb and put manure on a couple of the raised beds but was a waste of our time.

Surely the potatoes would be full size by now anyway? My second earlies were blighted on 24th July and had already reached a decent size. I cut the tops off and left them a couple of weeks before digging. They seem fine in the shed. I cut the still green tops off the Sarpo Mira main crop last week and harvested them yesterday, they were huge.
