Now I am sure you know my track record so I wouldn't hold your breath.   ::)

You are supposed to be able to sex the barred Plymouth rocks by the head spot and the colouring on the legs but one seems to contradict the other with my chicks!     I would be glad of any opinions members have on the sex though.

Here are head, leg and wing photos of chick 5 (leg ring number) which is probably a male.

Unfortunately the smallest chick died this morning.  It was a bit lethargic last night and didn't seem to be growing as the others were.   :(

Oh no, were these ones hatched in the incubator or under a broody?

They were incubator then put under the broody as she had been sat on quail eggs and had been squashing them.

On a brighter note, the remaining chicks are doing well.   :)

The three Barred Plymouth Rock bantam chicks are doing well, it turned out we have 2 girls and 1 boy so I am really happy.  The other little cross chick is a male and I have integrated him with his brothers and sisters that Summer hatched.

The BPR bantam accommodation is coming on slowly but surely.  Hubby has promised to prepare the soil for sowing some 'Poultry Pasture' seed at the weekend.  The chicks will have to be kept in their run while it is growing or let out on our lawn under supervision so they don't eat the seeds as they are growing.   ::)

The first picture is of the on going project and the second is the 3 chicks playing on the building site.
