Hi All, earlier in the year I treated part of my garden with ant powder, not to eradicate the ants but more to control the numbers.  The area is quite close to the house and I didnt want them migrating inside.

Further compost has now been added on top, about an additional 6 inches deep.

My question now is whether its safe to plant out my pea seedlings in this area?  The kids love eating the peas straight from the pod and I'm worried there may be a residual effect from the powder.

I'm leaning towards it probably being ok but I thought I'd seek advice on here.

Cheers

Mixed bag today, switching between bright sunshine and threatening rain clouds pretty quickly due to the freezing wind which isn't nice to be in at all.

It's grey drizzly and only 12C  :(
I've switched the central heating back on, feeling cold makes my old bones ache  ::)

Broad beans, down south in Georgia, USA!!

I did manage to harvest a few for eating! I know it's not much, but they have a can't-be-grown-here reputation in my state.  These were grown from seeds of a lone plant that survived a -14 C freeze in December 2022 (Windsor variety, I call these Windsor -'Hardy').

Any other beans I get this year will be saved for next year.

Agua dulce that I tried to also grow this spring never got off the ground.  Maybe try some more of those this autumn?

Added later: I de-podded them and blanched them per instructions online. My verdict: delicious! Nutty, creamy sweetness, like peas, but better.  They will be a protein topping a salad tomorrow.  Mrs. Sub_p is a bit suspicious of unfamiliar vegetables, I'll see if I can get her to try what she calls "those weird beans".

Another 181 today of various sizes. I reckon with a few hot days they’ll be looking for shelter under my planks, so should be a happy hunting ground.

Welcome to the site and I hope your wait for a lotty isn't too long.

Just remember - ask two gardeners a question, and you'll get three answers! Just goes to show a) that there's rarely only one way to do something, and b) if something goes wrong, it's probably not you who's to blame  ;)
