Plants for a shady border
« on: April 23, 2013, 18:04 »
After having a garden revamp I now need to plant up a shady border. The sun gets to the border mid-afternoon during the late spring, summer and early autumn but hardly at all during the winter months. I'd like a few perennials but happy to put annuals in each year. The order is 0.5m X 18M.
Thanks in advance.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

I would say that you could plant almost anything. Very little plant's grow during the winter month's so a lack of sunshine should not be a problem.

campanulas especially as they are a really good lettuce substitute.

Primulas do well anywhere - and they self seed quickly.
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)

My gardening diary is here - go on, have a peek , you might be able to help me!

Ferns are great in a shady place and there's a big variety. And primulas do grow anywhere - i have some growing under a big hedge and they just keep flowering.
