Title: Over head valve engines
Post by: jezza on August 28, 2023, 10:28
Hello I've just bought a new mower with a over head valve engine ,I has not got the low end torque of the old side valve engine on the previous mower, does any one know if a over head valve engine could be converted to the hetter side valve system     jezza

Good morning Jezza,
I have a side valve motorcycle, a Triumph Model 'P' 1926.  I cannot see you being able to change a overhead valve engine to a side valve without a lot of very serious 'fettling'.

Cheers,  Tony.

I think there were a few engines that went the other way (Morris Minors and BSA bikes), but don't remember any that went OHV to side.

Incorrect valve clearances can affect your power curve, I appreciate it's new, but they're easy to check in an OHV, just for peace of mind.

Or, if you want 'MORE POWER!', you could always port and polish to within an inch of its life, lap your valves, skim the head and run with a paper head gasket  :D.
