I had forgotten the bland taste.
« on: November 30, 2010, 21:33 »
For the past two months I have been eating my Autumn King 2 Carrots from the plot. Because of the frozen ground I have had to resort to buying Carrots from the supermarket, the carrots from the Supermarket are so bland in taste.

My Carrots are almost a different tasting vegetable compared to those offered in the shops.

Ditto, just finished the last of my carrots last week and had to buy some which didn't taste of anything in comparison. Also used the last of my salad crops recently and had to resort to shop bought stuff and I couldn't believe how tasteless it was or how expensive. Last pepper going to be eaten at dinner today and then thats it as everything else is frozen in the ground i.e. leeks, parsnips.

I'm ready for spring :)

I've run out of home grown carrots, finally.

Next year I'm going to grow some in recycling boxes like others here, to take me right through the winter.

This was my first year growing veggies, and it's definitely a shock to go back to supermarket veggies in the winter. My biggest shock were the baby bok choys, which were delicious when I grew them, but I bought them last week and they were tasteless, watery, tough and so unpleasant I didn't even finish mine.

I was really suprised by my Autumn King carrots as I wasn't expecting much difference from shop bought, but they were a revelation and made excellent Carrot and coriander soup and were lovely just boiled with a bit of butter on. Just got to control the carrot fly next year

My carrots didn't happen this year - still figuring that one out. But I did find that my cucumbers were a totally different taste and texture to the shop bought ones. It always makes me wonder why I didn't grow outr own stuff sooner!

Carrots didn't do it for me in 2009.
This season I bought some Enviromesh and sowed Autumn King 2 on the 1st June and they have been great.
Next season I will do the same except I will sow mid May so that I can start cropping in late September which is when we turn to Carrots as the first of the Autumn / Winter Veg after the Summer produce.

I only grow a few so I have to severely ration myself!  :(

I still had some in perfectly good condition at the end of last winter!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
