OK, watched GW last week and Carol was 'greenseeding' some flowers. I've just come back from the mother-in-laws-to-be and have got some greenseed pods from poppys and foxglove - I was going to try to germenate them. I know traditionally you have to let them dry out but if I try when these are green will I 'skip' the dormancy period??

We just let ours self-seed and transplant any that are in the 'wrong' place.

We get hundreds of foxgloves shooting up all over the place.

Seeds of many perennials will give much better germination if sown as soon as ripe
( they must be fully developed but not dried out)
When dried out certain germination inhibitors kick in and germination will be sporadic
( natures design to hedge their bets in case of poor conditions )

Foxgloves even obscure perennial ones are not usually a problem to germinate but there is a huge difference with helebore seeds sown fresh.
Reminds me - time to check my helebores for seed !!

So do we, no idea where they've come from cos we haven't got any ...In fact we've had one or two plants spring up this year that we didn't plant...they are little presents from the birds you know..?

We've had to give away hundreds of foxgloves, teazels and other perrenials/biennials.

It annoys me when they sprout in cracks in the concrete. Can't leave them there but can't dig them out either.
