Silver beet

Anyone know how to cook silver beet.

In my comp-lete ignorance, I planted some mixed American salad seeds and one of the strongest growers was silver beet.

It has lovely white stalks and thick green leaves and looked so good that I transplanted some into a seperate raised bed ...... real chuffed I was  
Until today when I took some home to my wife.

She said it was tough and horrible ..........  :o  :shock:  :cry:  :twisted:

So can you suggest anything before I have to decide to get rid of it all :?:  :?:

And if you can't pick it young enough, give it to the chickens, they love it, and if you haven't got any chickens, get some!!!!!  Everybody needs a chicken!!!!

Like WG says, read up on chard, sounds the same stuff.  Treat the leaves like spinach when they are young, and cut the white stalk out the middle and steam it for longer than you do the leaves.  I grew some chard last year courtesy of my little friend on here, and I liked it, but OH wasn't keen, so I shared it with the chooks in the end!!!
