This is going to sound really daft

I'm planning on buying one of those galvanised incinerators (my granda used to use an old dust bin ) and try to clean up my chicken pen this weekend - hopefully there won't be any roast chicken involved!

Anyway, is there any specific way it should be used?  Any order in which "stuff" should be added?  I guess you need to start off the fire before you add too much.  Is there anything I should add to the bottom of the incinerator to prevent it burning through too quickly?

I find it better for small burns, so not big loads of wood. I tend to do the sawdust first followed by the straw from the nest boxes which have newspaper as well, followed by any other sawdust.

Thanks grinnling - but I was thinking more of the nettles and old bramble canes etc

Old dried grassy type material or small dry twigs is good at the bottom to get it going, as if it doesn't get going properly its a bit of a waste of time. Some nice dry small kindling wood if you haven't got grassy material.
