These are our 2 six week old chicks. They've grown sooooo fast

We would really like to know which sex they are, so if you think you know just say . It really doesn't  matter if you're wrong, we would like to see what the majority of people think.

The first one is a black frizzle and the second is a mixed bantam.

I agree sunshineband - the photos aren't very good, but you can get an idea by their combs and wattles.

I wasn't commenting on your photo quality, so much as thinking it is difficult to sex them from photos at six weeks

I wondered if anyone could tell by the photos because our local chicken breeder was able to tell which sex our chicks we had last year were

Well, yes. That would seem to be the way forward.

I know. They would be 1st choice, but we aren't going to see them for a few weeks.

as one is a cross then doubt that you can sex them at that age, also as I don't breed frizzles I have absolutely no idea of that ones sex either. I tend to wait until they crow or lay eggs unless you have a colour or feather sexed bird.
Nice to know you don't think of the help on here as first choice.

Joyfull - you know how much time I spend on here asking lots of questions. Our local chicken breeder is first choice on sexing our chicks because it is so much easier seeing them in real life. You know that, you've just said you havn't a clue which sex they are! And I obviously wasn't saying our local chicken breeder is first choice for everything. I think everyone's first choice would be to take the chicks to the chicken breeder!

If I have a question lurking in my head, I always immediately ask it on here. I am slightly upset by your comment.

It's very difficult at this age to tell by a single photo which doesn't show the features you'd most like to see such as the tail feathers for example and seeing them in the flesh their bearing is often a clue.

From the head photos and general body shape the mixed bantam looks like a hen but I'd like to see the tail.  If it's compact and tightly feathered with no longer or sickle like feathers that's a positive sign it maybe a hen.  However I've got some Orloff bantams one of which I was sure wasa cock but now I'm thinking is a hen and they are 16 weeks old!

Possibly the frizzle is a cock as the comb seems to be elongated though still short but that's very much a guess.
