I would like to point out to all that battery hens are availiable at many times of year from the Battery Hen Welfare Trust. Many members have said they would like to rescue some hens or even start their chicken hobby with some. These are widely available up and down the country and you will be giving a deserving home to an animal that would otherwise have their life cut short. I shall be getting some myself soon from this marvelous charity that is run by volenteers and has well known patrons backing their cause. So please if you are thinking of getting some more hens, give their website a look! Each year I used to get a few hens from a local farmer when cleaning out his sheds and sending them to slaughter. 50 pence each and free if they looked like they weren't going to make it. To see their lives being totally changed and enriched is wonderful. Give it a go!!
