What to grow?
« on: July 11, 2011, 11:06 »
I have made my plot into a kind of diamond shape with 4 triangles each corner, one triangle has peas and beans, the other is roots and onions and the other is brassicas, the 4th should be 'permanent' such as rhubarb and a herb garden but I am going to have that as another diamond in the middle with a path around the edge of the inner diamond, hope that makes sense? So my question is what would you put in the top left triangle, it has a shed to the left of this part so is quite shady, It looks rather bare at the moment!! ??

Thanks!!

It's not clear whether you still intend the 4th triangle to have permanent planting or to form part of the rotation?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I guess it can be either really! It could be a permanent but the herb garden is going to be in the middle so doesnt need to be on the 4th part?!

Thanks for your reply x

If it's quite shady I'd avoid most permanent herbs as they tend to be mediterranean and like hot dry conditions.

Unless you permanently want to grow salad crops in there, I'd perhaps consider a 4-year crop rotation and just accept that whatever goes in that part may not maximise its crop if it is there that year?
