Wet chooks!!
« on: January 22, 2010, 19:15 »
Evening all   :)

After being out all day today I got home and went straight up the the coop to make sure all 3 girlies were in bed.  They all looked very wet from todays rain - although not completely soaked through.  Will it do them harm to roost with wet feathers?

They should be ok, mine got a real soaking today and the run is very muddy, I laid some hay down to soak up the water.

They usually preen themselves if they are too damp, lets hope for a drier day tomorrow  :)
Seek not to know all the answers, just to understand the questions.

Make sure to remove the hay asap as mouldy hay can cause respiratory problems in chooks.

Thanks, yes it will be removed tomorrow, I have done this for a few years as it is better than lettinig them walk in sloppy mud. A dry day forcast tomorrow so they will be roaming the lower garden.  :D

When mine have got wet they have always been fine, they'll dry off while huddling together during the night.

Mine have just put themselves to bed after being out since 9 am.

It has been a great weather day here in Worcester and I have spent all day in the garden, lets hope for plenty more this year.  :D
