alpine plants?
« on: May 24, 2015, 19:37 »
Ive got a 10" gap between new decking and fence, I was toying with filling the void with gravel and putting in alpine plants .. Will they take as I don't intend to put soil in the void. Next doors garden is higher than mine so there will be soil.for the roots to seek out just didn't want to add soil next to the deck .... Hope this makes sense.
2 Books and No idea!!!  Learning as I go!

Should be fine as some alpines grow in very little soil,or house leeks would be good, or a few of the smaller herbs, thymes for instance

I was also going to suggest houseleeks, sempervirens and sedums because they can survive in gravel but just put some gritty soil in the bottom of their planting hole to make sure they take.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I'd also consider Delospermum congesta with its fleshy grey-green leaves that look like stone. Also produces plenty of attractive small yellow daisy flowers Also Campanula cochlearifolia "Baby Blue", or "Elizabeth Oliver", if you can find either locally I would mix in a small amount of soil into the gravel if you plant either Campanulas.
