I'm in the same situation as you. Long grass in the allotment on my side of the path. My neighbour only trims his side and pointedly leaves my bit! So I've trawled through the forum looking for advice. As a result I'm going for the Mculloch trim 25cc for sale at Argos £84.99as it gets more thumbs up.

If you buy cheap, you waste  all your money when the thing busts. If you spend as much as you can afford you waste less as -hopefully - it does what it says it will do.

So now I've got a charm offensive on the wife to put into play ( much sighing and looking at weeds/grass in a wistful manner) as she will have to pay for it.

Good luck

Confused.

I will lie awake at night working out whether I am wasting £24.99 and trying to calculate whether £60 spent three years ago is now £84.99 in which case.

Meanwhile the weeds are knee high and if I don't do something then I'll be looking for an indistrial brush cutter

I've noticed a few people around our plot using battery strimmers to cut the paths around the plot, they seem to do the job and are cheaper, smaller, lighter and less noisy and smelly.  I personally haven't tried one out, I use a cheap flymo petrol strimmer.

Received my Mculloch strimmer £79.50 from Garden Lines .co.uk (cheaper than Argos and no delivery charge) today and it is a vicious machine worth wearing heavy boots, long trousers and safety spec for.

I am totally satisfied with it. It started first time and promptly tore into the nettles and docks and other weed greenery on my embankment.

If I hadn't slaughtered 3 foxgloves along the way I'd be the mutts nuts tonight. As it is my wife discovered me shovelling their heads into the bin and we are not speaking.
