Kale Plants
« on: April 03, 2013, 13:00 »
This might seem like a really stupid question, but last year I bought some kale plug plants from Alidi, they have been in the ground since last summer some time.

Without wanting to wish their life away when are they likly to finish?  They seem to be having a bit of a spurt of life at the moment...  I'm trying to plan my veg patch but I don't know when this space will be free so I don't know what I can plant to put in it's space!

Thanks

Hannah

It is doing what it's supposed to do - filling the hungry gap  :D

Pull it up when you don't fancy eating it any more, it's that simple ;)

Ok thanks, my bunny has been happily munching on it - I'm not sure she'll ever get bored of it!

Before long they'll go to seed and, if you want to save some, you get lots and lots of the stuff.

What a good question!  I have some too, but I don't think mine have got any bigger since last October!  One bunny munch would finish them off, I think!  Unless they do something soon they are off to the compost heap.

I spoke too soon!  Yesterday every kale plant has been nibbled to skeleton stumps by pesky pigeons!  >:( So they are on the compost heap now.

I sowed my kale at the end of march and they are now about 6cm tall .... my book says that you move them to their permanent home in July ..... why not before??

I sowed them in a seed tray using DD leek planting method ... how many plants is enough for a family of 4 I have lots and only just realised they need alot of room.
2 Books and No idea!!!  Learning as I go!

Well I noticed at the weekend that my Kale has totally gone to seed!!  Lots of leaves on it at the moment still but it's days are numbered!

My russian kale has now gone to seed but I've been using the flower tops as PSB and can't tell the difference :D

It's got a few more meals in it yet.
