Our Horticultural Society is sadly closing and the Allotment Society are looking to take on the existing on-site Trading Hut . Would they have to re register the allotment society (self managed) as a charity to carry on and how easy is that ? Thanks in advance Paul

Our association, which includes a shop, is not registered as a charity. We're just an unincorporated association.  We have trading (shop) insurance to cover the shop.  We have simple accounts, which are audited by someone independent.

We’re similar, we have a members only store for our garden club, we have insurance for onsite in the store for members & our volunteer staff. We pay RHS affiliation for our members & subsequently get free entry to one of the RHS gardens each year. We aren’t a charity but are looking into what are the requirements for us to become one, we have a committee & a constitution.
