poorly chicken please help
« on: October 25, 2009, 11:58 »
Poor Izzy, she is a speckeldy aabout 18 months old. Lives with whizzy, who is not poorly.
She hasn't laid for about a week, now is pulling her feathers out, and is very wobbly on her legs. She has green poo. She is in the garden now, and does not want to be picked up, but I will later to have a good look. I have checked the coop and there doesn't appear to be any red mites. Any suggestions would be sooooo welcome, thanks

Hi Mocat

Welcome to the forums :)

Have you ever wormed your girls? Green poo can be a sign of worms :(

Have a look through these poo pics see if any match :)

Has she been eating the feathers or just plucking? Is she eating and drinking as normal?

What do you normally feed them on?

Finally last question for now, could she be moulting? That would answer why she has stopped laying also :)

Sarah :)

Thanks for replying so promptly.
No I've not wormed them
She is only plucking the feathers not eating them
I feed them layers mash, corn, and loads of fresh veggies
The green poo didn't look as if it was in the last lot of nasty pics.

I think I would try worming them first :)

Info on what to do it with and how is here :

Personally I always use Flubenvet :D

I would give her a really good looking over especially round her vent to check she hasn't got any creepy crawlies :)
Again things to look out for are here:

Maybe try her with some poultry spice (added to food) to make sure she is getting enough vitamins etc...

Only other thing I can suggest is only give a handful of corn daily and make sure she fills up on the mash :) When she is better it may be better to try her on Pellets :)
