I posted here a few months ago with the question, Plastic or cardboard??
I decided in the end to use cardoard to cover my overgrown allotment. although there were a few weeds popping up around the sides it was an overall success. I spent a few hours digging today and it was an enjoyale dig The weeds ,grass were all but gone and the roots were weak,soft and dead.also the soil didnt loose any moisture if anything it gained it.will deff use this system again next time but perhaps a little earlier this time.

Nice thing about cardboard is that its biodegradeable, while plastic is not. In my raised beds, I lined the bases with cardboard before filling with soil mix. That way any determined perennial weeds have a real struggle to get through and usually die off with little work on my part.
