Swiss chard, Yes or NO??
« on: May 20, 2011, 21:36 »
My plot is running out of space rapidly and i have bought some swiss chard seeds, I have never grown or eaten it before and was just wondering if it is worth taking up valuable space....what do you all think???

Yes.

I have 8 in a 4x1ft row and they give enough leaves for a meal (my sized meal  8) ) every week.

I treat it like cut and come again cabbage.

I would also say yes as you can pick leaves and treat it as cut and come again.  Good yield for the space it takes up.

Can I add another belated yes?  lol  I use the leaves like spinach and just steam them lightly, and the stalks I chop and put in stews and things like I do celery.

Hubby said he didn't like it though!  But there's lot of things he doesn't like!!

You can get a crop most of the year if you grow some in containers and bring them inside during the winter. I also prefer the white stalked ones to those multicoloured things.
