My old horse Charlie died in the night age 25 years. He had not been ill so it was a terrible shock. He has been semi retired for many years due to arthritis but was ridden yesterday on a quiet hack which he enjoyed. I am heartbroken, had him since he was 9 years. He was such a character and everyone loved him. These photos were taken earlier this year.

Im so sorry Jen I know what its like loosing your best frind as mine had to be put to sleep earlier this year aged 34.

Sorry to hear your news.  Know exactly how you feel  as we lost Harry just before Christmas.  At least you got one last ride to remember.   Why do these things always happen around Christmas/New Year?

I'm very sorry for you Jen. We have horses and know the pain of such loss but in many ways it's better when it happens suddenly and naturally like this.  Having to take the decision to put a horse down is one of the worst traumas you can have.   In 2007 we had to have two horses put down, one age related and the other through cholic, and almost a third though he thankfully made a miraculous recovery, and the heartbreak took a long time to get over.

I'm sure your fond memories will help heal the pain.
