i'm having problems on my allotment plot with badgers digging up my potatoes (well we have badgers on the site so i assume its them). I therfore would like to fence off my plot. I would love to have a picket fence all around it but it would be very expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives ?

How's about using pallet wood?
Free, and plentiful and can be very stylish too :D
-
so can you pickup the pallets free - where from ?
-
Mostly on industrial estates
You just need to ask

I've moved this over to Frugal Living - seems the best place for it ;)
Do you have any large factories or shopping centres nearby. They often have pallets stacked out the back - they have to pay for disposal so they're usually glad for you to take them away :)

i will have to take a look around and see what i can find thanks for the advice

Best thing for prising the wood apart is a crowbar ;)

This is my little fence my OH made me from pallet wood. He never did get the rest of it finished! lol

I cheated and just cut off the top rail and cut Vs into the lengths then nailed the pallets together

That's not cheating, it is being sensible :D
On our site you would need to add some netting to keep out the rabbits though , or add in extra pales to make smaller gaps

Good luck! When a badger decides it wants something there's little that will stop it - but I can't see them going for spuds at this time of year. Thay have a particular love of peanut butter and it's been found that there is no rock heavy enough to stop them getting at peanut butter placed under it. If they can't shift the rock sideways, they'll just dig under it.. (many years ago my thesis involved badgers and their diet)

So perhaps you should divert their interest from your plot with some peanut butter elsewhere :D

I did exactly the same, and here is the result:
