Hi, I wonder if anyone can shed any light here...

1 of my girls has developed a swelling above her left eye. I've checked out all the other swollen eye topics and none seem to cover what she's got - but then I'm still new to all this.

A couple of days ago it just looked like she was scowling (do chickens scowl?) but looking closer at it today the area above her eye is puffy causing the upper eyelid to push down a bit. It's no redder than normal, no nasal discharge, no watery eye, just the puffiness and she seems bright in herself, still laying, feeding and gallivanting around the garden.

Any tips please?

Well, she posed beautifully for her portrait shot and as soon as I can get in touch with someone who can tell me how to shrink it down from 230KB to the allowable size I'll put one on for you (not that computer savvy, sorry!)

Thanks Sarah, that seems to have done the trick!

Looking at her again the swelling seems to have affected the left side, not just the eyebrow area, and has given her a look of being in a foul mood (pun intended). I'm hopefully worrying over nothing but with so much experience out there I'm sure someone will come up with something useful. Might try to persuade her to pose for a right shot to give something to compare it to - I could be some time ...

It's swollen all around her face on that side isn't it 

There are a few infections that can cause facial swelling but you would need a vet to give an accurate diagnosis and some treatment.

Hmm, thought that might be the case... I just hope the chicken vet is on over the weekend.

There's quite a difference isn't there !

She obviously has an infection in the left sinuses.  If she was mine I'd get some antibiotics for her.

I got in touch with my vet (who also keeps chickens) and she reckons it could just be the result of a bump or maybe a sting but as she's otherwise very bright in herself and is showing no other symptoms we should just leave her for the time being to let nature do her thing. This is now 3 days later, the swelling has gone down slightly and there's still no other symptoms so it looks like Bertie (Big Bertha) was just checking to see if I'd notice...bless her!
