They are a reasonable weight SN you may be better off with a long handled spade mine came from B&Q cost about £25 or so but the shaft is long stands at 5 foot tall or so in total but theres no handle it looks like the one on the left of the picture in this article.
They are a doddle to use far easier IMHO than a normal spade, I think Munty has one of these too.
