Hi
New to this
I have 13 chickens and was wondering if this rainy weather effects the amount of eggs you get. I have had 24 eggs this week up to sat afternoon
but only a dozen last week???

All sorts of factors affect laying - if they are new to you you can expect a fall off over the next couple of weeks as they settle in.

Diet is a factor too, as is moulting. Eggs take 25 hours to develop so you can't expect exactly the same every day even with Sussex :D  Although our warrens seem to lay daily the sussex slightly less.

I can only tell about my girls, but when it is constantly dull and rainy for days egg production does seem to decline somewhat. but in that weather would you be bothered about laying an egg?

well just back from hols  5 out of my 6 eggs hatched just before i went away and are good and healthy 2 wyandottes and 3 leghorns.
I put another 10 eggs under a large sussex before i went away and they all hatched  thursday and friday exactley 19 and 20 days. 2 wyandottes and 8 leghorns. 1 of the leghorns is a bit weak and was being trampled so it is at home with me and getting stronger by the hour.
Not bad for my second try  :D

Chickens are stimulated to lay eggs by the amount of daylight hours ... that's why they tail off in Winter unless they are kept in artificial light, or have a window shining out onto them ... maybe the same principle applies in rainy dull dark summers?

its biological that a bird only lays when it feels it has a chance of hatching the eggs .i remember having my 180+ chooks and going down to 17 eggs a day for a week or more , after the bad spell they layed like they had won the lottery
