Rhubarb after harvesting.
« on: July 27, 2018, 11:39 »
My rhubarb has given and grown well this year,i have all i need in the freezer but there are still more stalks of rhubarb growing and more coming up.
Question is do i leave the plant to grow and then die off?or do i take all the stalks off the plant? any info would be great thanks in advance.Lillileaf.

Leave it to recover for next year, I just leave the stalks/leaves to die back naturally when they want to. I think the heat this year will have taken a lot out of the roots, so I'll try to remember to crop mine lightly next year, wouldn't want to lose it.

I would leave nature take its course and as it dies back just clear it up.
early winter I put fym around the ground near the crowns

FYM is farmyard manure.
I don't harvest after the end of July, but leave it to build up some strength for next years crop.
This was my rhubarb patch on my plot in the midlands before I moved, it was pretty amazing!

I let mine die back then throw a load pf manure on it don’t know if that was right to do but it grew the following year with real vigour 😀
