I'm being given some spent hops from a local microbrewery  . As I can only collect a small quantity at a time, I was wondering where they would do most good.

I didn't manure in the autumn (due to health, not laziness  ) so all areas need a good feed.

Also, can I dig them in when I dig over next week or should I wait and use them as a top dressing?

Has anyone any experience of using hops on their plot?

If it's fairly good nitrogen-wise I'll give it a go dug in to the brassica patch.

I use loads of them, as I have an almost unlimited supply. They make lovely compost, I mix them with layers of soil and card. I also mulch with them, most of my plot is covered in a 2 inch layer at the moment.

I also use them in the bottom of the trenches that I use for beans and celeriac. As an experiment, last year, I planted two trenches of celeriac, one with hops and one without. The ones in the hoppy trench were much bigger than the others. Make of that what you will.
