« on: October 30, 2008, 14:39 »
Hi All

Half of my plot is coverered in 4-5 foot of Bramble. I really want to tackle this mess and get rid of.

Can anyone tell me the best way to tackle this and to keep it away, also how do i dispose of it?

Many Thanks  :D

Hi Catherine,

The only way to get rid of brambles permanently is to get the roots out.

I'd suggest you cut them down to a foot or so in height (leaves you something to grab hold of as you lever them out), and then use a fork or mattock/azada to get the roots out.

Unless you have access to a brushcutter like another of our members in this thread

The roots and tops will burn - they would compost down but slowly because they're quite woody
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi Pete C,

I got one in an argos sale when they were £65. I've not as yet fitted the strimmer bit but the brushcutter is great, oh and they come with a 2 year guarentee too. I think richyrich7(?) bought one too and was pleased with it.

The only downside being a 2 stroke is that they are noisy as hell, but I just bought cheap ear defenders form a workwear shop. I really wanted a 4 stroke Honda brushcutter but they retail at £300 plus!

cheers amc

Yep, the noise aspect worried me too. Plot is at the end of gardens.........other end is a factory wall to bounce noise back. I'll give it a miss.

I believe you can hire a brushcutter from HSS if you don't want to buy one.
Cheese makes everything better.
