Thanks Pauline and others.  Don't get me started on this subject. I can't bear to see animals mistreated in any form.

Pep I do know what it is like out there, we used to feed the street dogs near our apartment in VT especially in the winter when they were out in the snow.

Our other dog Jake was rescued originally from a house with 6 cats and 11 other dogs who had never been outside - ever. He has had a broken rib which never mended properly and so has a lump on his side. He also had a broken jaw at some point. He has only one tooth left as they were rotten and the only reason they can't remove the remaining one is it is right on the break and they are frightened it would damage the jaw again. Still he has had a good life since and hopefully Ellie will too.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it....
