Hyundai 6.5hp ?
« on: September 19, 2023, 16:23 »
Hello, new here on the forum and was wondering if any of you knowlegable folks have had any experience with the 6.5hp (212cc) 4 stroke engine by Hyundai. It's just that I've been given an old Honda FG314 with the engine about clapped out and weighting it all up regarding cost of spares for the original Honda engine or re-engining with a new one. I'm very temtpted by the Hyundai at around £150.00 brand new.

Thanks

Assuming I googled the right one, the Hyundai looks to be a Honda GX clone. Honda don't make a 212cc version but otherwise it looks awful close. Anyway, the GC engine you have may or may not be similar in size, and the new engine has to physically fit. Also it doesn't want to be much heavier. I specialise in Merry Tillers and the Majors with 5hp B & S engines feel much clumsier than the otherwise identical 3hp B & S engined Majors. If you do go for the Hyundai, make sure the crankshaft is the right diameter. Honda GXs are available with taper cranks and 5/8" dia, 3/4" dia, 20mm dia, etc, straight cranks. So I expect the Hyundais will be too.

Thanks for that, yeup checked it out and the Hyundai is allmost identical to the old Honda GC that was on. Mounting holes and output shaft are identical but the Hyundai is slightly lighter than the old Honda. Only real difference I can see is the Hyundai is 212cc and 6.5hp as opposed to 160 and 4.5hp for the Honda. Shopped around and got one for £134.99 icluding delivery with a two year warranty which was quite a saving on the Honda equivalent.

Hello someone I know bought a brand new Hyundai chipper shredder with a 6.6 hp engine  first time out he put a 1 inch diameter branch in it(2inch capacity stated ) Crankshaft sheared Hyundai said it had been to much for it the shredder should have been used first,it doesnt actually shred material as theres no out let under neath it has a spout that had blocked, then hyundai admitted thr belt should have slipped before the crankshaft went, manufacturing flaws were found in the crankshaft they replaced the engine    jezza
