Is kale the curly 'seeweed' stuff thats fried crispy and coated in aromat that you get from the chinese or cantonese?

I dont know
Its very rare that I go, but someone told me ages they just deep fry curly kale.  Ive never tasted kale, but as I can put some in now, I wanted to see if I could make some use of it if I didnt like the fresh (healthy!) product
Maybe Id better pop into my local chinese and ask :-)

We tried to use the dark green ordinary cabbage, which tasted okay but it stunk the house out for about 48 hours.  Won't do that again.

The "seaweed" they use in Chinese restaurants is apparently spring greens and not real seaweed as you get in Japanese, seems quite a rip off then when they charge us about £3 for it!

i have seen the lady from the chinese in a local town buying about 6 bags of kale or spring greens so reckon its the stuff - why not have a look in your local supermarket at the pre done stuff you can buy and see what the ingredient list says - that might help too.

At £3 a portion its a rip alright, but if it stinks the house out is it worth it?

Think they also sprinkle it with a bit of sugar down our way
just keep breathing................

It was mentioned on the Chris Evans show on Radio Two ages ago.  His gastronome Nigel bought a bag that was cut up into pieces and shallow fried in just a little oil for a couple of minutes.  I had never eaten kale before and I tried it and it was fab.  You may still get the info on the Radio Two web site (Chris Evans' page).

kale is lovely and I was surprised how nice it was. Lovely and tender in a stir fry if you use the fresh, new tops.

I love kale, lightly boiled or steamed with butter and black pepper, it's delicious!
I'd never thought of it as a stir fry veg but I'll give that a go too  :)
First timer, NOT enjoying the backache anymore!

The Gardeners World book I use for advice says you can use Kale. It says you cut it across the leaf into fine strips and fry. Not tried it as slugs attacked my kale so have had to put some more in.

Kale is great. My favourite is Cavolo Nero. Try adding a layer between the mince and the spuds when making a shepherds/cottage pie.... Delicious!
