I planted my tulips and daffs a bit late this year, around end of January I think.

Anyway, they are all in pots and are above ground but not by much. The tulips are starting to flower with the flower head only just peeping out of the ground and no stem at all. :shock:

Do you think this is due to me planting late, the plants being too dry in pots, or due to vine weevil grubs? ( I have them in some of the pots)

Could be a bit of each but lateness of planting gets my vote.  As I understand it, autumn sown bulbs put on root growth before the onset of winter.  They are able then to send up the strong top growth we all know and love.

This is certainly the case with garlic.

Spot on WG it's cause their late planted, got a few like that myself the flowers are just out of the soil.
