The Big Dig Polytunnel
« on: June 19, 2007, 10:29 »
Hello

This is my first year in allotmenting so I am still learning the ropes and have loads of questions but for now,

I saw the TV program The Big Dig and remember seeing them build a home made polytunnel (more a pest deterant) out of Garden shade and some wooden batten with pegs in a water piping (I think).

Can anyone remember exactly what the parts were and where you can get them from as my cabbages will need protecting a  bit better than they already are plus hey looked quite neat and tidy and easy to store in the Winter.

I just make mine using blue water pipe (for hoops) and cover with fleece, plactic netting or enviromesh. I leeve the hoops in and just remove the cover and place on the next crop that needs the protection.
Try my best to be Organic but don't always make it

Hi Nothing..., you're probably looking for something similiar to the Geoff Hamilton cloche which is a few pages back in Design & Construction.

There's a similar cloche to Geoff's at
www.powen.freeserve.co.uk/Projects/projectsindex.htm
under tunnel cloche.

Sorry if the address isn't enabled; not my forte.
