Have you any type of woodbark in mind? Hardwood, softwood......? :)

I only ask, as some will advise against using pine bark, although many will tell you they use this with no problems.

Bark can produce some mould spores which can be harmful to hens. In my opinion its only harmful if you use it inside the coop. Used outside in the run with plenty of ventilation it should'nt be a problem.
Sets a low standard and fails to achieve it.

On a chicken course I attended run by a vet specialising in chickens he recommended never using tree bark re the spore issue - inside or outside :)

I use bark in the run during winter to prevent it turning into a mud bath ,as the run has no roof at present-I need to get OH working on that ::)
By spring the bark has been well and truly incorporated.
