Grow Your Own / Re: Are you giving your tomato plants asprin?

We find it helps as a preventative, but its not a silver bullet.  Spray with aspirin when the forecast Hutton Criteria for the area are red (see https://blightspy.huttonltd.com/#/forecast) with the idea that it stresses the plant, closing the pores and therefore making it less vulnerable to the late blight spores.  Don't overcook it and weaken the plant, keep them well fed and strong, and take off excess foliage.  All together it increases the odds of a good year!
Once they have blight, you can try removing the affected foliage, but you are only buying a bit of time.  :(  And on an allotment site, once one plot has it ... again it is only a matter of time.  :( :( :(

I'm sure I was listening to a garden program on the TV the other day and someone said they sprayed there plants with a weak mix of chilli powder to deter slugs  I have used a mix of both Garlic and Chili powder with a dash of washing up liquid and it seemed to work on my brassicas with regular spraying of the mix and the veg tasted ok when cooked not a problem I also sprayed round the base of the plant mite be worth thinking about trying that method ?

I would still recommend one, I just thought greenjay was looking for a cheaper option..... but perhaps they are considered 'cheap' now everything has gone up in price?
They are £102 in Argos for strimmer and batteries, but you'd still need to buy a charger...
