Hi,
i was wondering when do i have to worry about red mite treatment , my chicks are 3 weeks old. i dont have any other chickens. how do they get red mite in the first place? Sorry for all the questions but i cant seem to find any books that give me the answers.

I guess they are not outside yet.  Once outside , if they are not under cover & wild birds can visit, then you are prone to red mite at any time. You should use preventative products like poultry sheild & red mite powder/Diatom every cleaning (especially in all the nooks & crannies/ perches).   Mark my words, you DO NOT WANT red mite.

Please don't worry, there are plenty of threads on here to guide you through.
With the right products  & proper husbandry you are hopefully less likey to get them.
