Title: poly tunnel cover
Post by: rowlandwells on January 15, 2019, 18:30
a friend of ours has just bought a large second hand poly tunnel  and he tells me he's going to put what I think they call net tunnel covers instead of A  poly cover he said its better than the poly cover for growing as there is no water on the allotments AND the net cover will keep the tunnel from burning the plants

as my tunnel is a poly cover I'm just wondered how the two compare for growing net cover or poly sheet?

Net covers do not give much shelter, as although they keep some wind out, they don't make the inside much warmer, or give frost protection. The only crops I've seen burn in a neighbour's polytunnel, were crops that didn't need to be inside one - like summer brassicas ;)
So with a net cover they won't help grow much through the winter, or help crops like tomatoes and peppers.
I had good crops all year round, when I had my polytunnel in the garden:)

Thinking of doing similar by getting poly tunnel frame and cover with scaffolding netting. This will be for planting Brassicas mainly.
Idea is it will keep the bugs/birds out and be easy to walk around to tend the plants.
At the moment I am using scaffolding netting over a 2ft high frame.
Your thoughts?

Just perfect for brassicas - and cheaper than buying one of these  ;)
