new egg layer

I went out this morning and the chucks were more vocal than usual after letting them out and giving breakfast i looked in the nest box to find another egg but this time it had a smear of blood on it does this mean one of the other hens has started laying and produed her first egg or should i be concerned for our only egg layer.

Sorry walker can you tell me the age of your hens and are they all laying?
Have you checked for prolapses?

hi roughlee we bought them 30th january as point of lay one of the light sussex was laying as soon as she got home :D but the other one and the Rhode islands havent as yet.

hi pumpkin-kat
we got four in total two light sussex and two rhode island red, its the light sussex that are laying, one of them from the start, egg the same day we got her home and the other one started today. the two RIR are a little younger than the other two so hopefully not long before they lay.
It is great having them and they have really turned into characters,RIR are the quiet ones and the light sussex are the escape artists :lol: :lol: :lol:

awww lol We had one laying to start with, and now got 4 laying! They are great, I can still watch them for hours.  :)
