These are the (not very imaginatively named) Large Red Damselflies from a mass hatching at the weekend. They take 2 years to grow from egg o adult, and we have a fairly healthy population of these. The females her (lower insect) have yellow hoops round their abdomen, but in some areas these are black hoops, or even almost completely black.
