I have been reading the best way to grow broccoli and the article says to sow seed in spring and harvest the following spring. Does it really take 12 months to grow to maturity?

it certainly takes its time but it is worth it, i will sow mine early may to go out in june. we have just started picking this years, had some for tea tonight and like i said it is worth the wait

I've done the same Ice, started in modules 4 weeks ago and just transplanted to 3 inch pots. I'm assuming it will taste more like the summer tenderstem varities rather than the stronger spring sprouting versions (the family loves both types so it makes little difference !)

I hope it works because it is is one of my most favourite veg.

Agree there Ice. We'll have to compare come the autumn. Couldn't get hold of any "Bordeaux" this year, everyone sold out, I'm just trying Suttons "Summer Purple Sprouting" variety which I picked up in the local hardware shop!

The PSB that I planted last year said the same Ice, harvest Aug - Oct.
Yeah right, only started picking a few weeks ago, but tastes great and it just keeps coming.

my were planted as young plants at the lottie last august,,the purple broccoli was there last week ,,,,,,,,,,,, so about 7 mths,,long time
