This is my 2nd year of rubarb growing. I grew it from seed last year and didn't pick any stalks.

 I have quite a bit already this year and was wondering how you know when it can be picked?

When it's long enough

Which means you must be able to get your hand around the stalk to pull it right out from the base

Just picked my first of the year this week-end and my beloved cooked my a nice Rhubarb crumble. mmmmm
The earlier the tastier I think.

I often wish I had a 'proper' allotment rather than just a veg patch, but at least no one pinches my rhubarb...

When you pick it does it encourage further growth.

I'm eyeing mine up every day, must have a later variety. Have three massive plants (already split one and have a further 6 but won't be picking from them this year). The longest stem I have is about 5 inches....not much longer....
