Title: spit roast/BBQ rabbit
Post by: jennyb on May 22, 2008, 08:40
am doing a BBQ tonight.  thought i might see if there's a rabbit at the market today for mum and SD.

not sure how or if i can spit roast it - but thought it would be a nice change for them.

any ideas on timing etc.  thought i might marinade in a garlicy/rosemary/oil first.

Marinade it and wrap it with bacon, might be a bit dry otherwise
Sounds great

Which market do you go to?

it's just the local town market today but there's a butcher who sells his own pork and pies as well as bought in stuff like cheese and juices.  but they often have rabbit too.  failing that i might take a look at the butcher in town.

i did wonder about bacon.

how long do you reckon alex?

cheers alex.

right had better go see if they have any now!!

i cook for mum and S-D once a week to give mum a break.

S-D is supposed to too, after i made a complaint that they both work full time so it was unfair on mum. and infact she gets home after he does.

last night S-D's task was to put a tesco quiche in the over with jacket potatoes and make a salad (although i was asked to harvest the leaves from the garden) - he managed to get the quiche in the oven,  mum's jacket was raw and he simply washed the leaves put them in a bowl on the table for the "salad".   I WILL get him to cook her a proper meal one day.

i like to do something different with a bit more effort for mum as when she gets home from work i know often she doesn't feel like it.

Mmmm - looks lovely, Jenny.
How about some Peshwari kebabs as well? Into minced lamb bung finely chopped onion, ground cumin and coriander seeds, fresh coriander and a hint of chilli. Roll into little balls and bung on a skewer. Fab with youghurt into which you've grated an apple. Serve in a flat bread or pitta.

sounds lovely but mum doesn't do spicy/curry in the slightest.... when i told her about the rabbit idea she said she was glad the season was over!

although i did manage to broaden her horizons with an avocado dessert i saw on ready steady cook.
