my freecycle joy
« on: September 09, 2007, 00:09 »
hi this is what i just got today from freecycle.  It had not been started for three years

i changed the plug emptied the old fuel and oil and replaced with new.

total cost £3.50 ish

and it runs very well

it is a merry tiller :D

the left handle has two screw holes where something has been :?

can anyone let me know what is missing?

on the left side the is a bracket just above the belt and was wondering if a tensioner was missing along with the lever from the handle

if i am correct in my assumptions then will it still do its job ok when in the muck!!!!!!  so to speak

cheers

sounds like it jack can you posta full pic so we can see the bracket ,the belts may have to be shorter and you may have no stoping facility except swithing the engine off so take care mate .if you post the pics i can see whsats missing and maybe we ( the rotavator club can help in geting the details for the bits required
still alive /............

Hi

Cheers Munty  i had it running today a few times for prolonged periods but had to keep the tines up off the ground as they kept turning ( no centrifugal clutch) thingy

as you mentioned there seems to be no brake so this could be whats missing so i will take more pics tmw and try posting them.

when i pull the lever on my other machine the engine revs faster as the belt takes up more tension.  The new machine takes up the tension but the revs stay the same sinc.

i have not tried it in the ground yet.  So thinks may all become apparent as they did with my baby briggs,  when i put her in the muck

cheers

if you put it on the ground, is the clutch sticky enough to 'walk' the machine? you may find that it only has enough force there to spin the tines in the air.

the clutch should default to 'disengage'. I dont think it has a centrifugal clutch !

yes jack the clutch is missing, you can work it without it but getting the belt tension and starting it could be a bit hard.might be worth trying to find one.
have a look at this site

hi

that black hole at the top is actually a plastic stopper type thing dont know why it is recessed

I have a leaver for the tension on the right handle and an accelerator on the left on my other machine could the thing that is missing not be an accelerator lever,   as looking on the link shaun gave for Merry Tillers there does not appear to be another lever clutch type.

the bottom pic shows the choke and fast / slow running levers just to the right of the filler cap.  so this leaves me confused as my above theory about it being a throttle would be daft.

just to add further info when i have had it running the tines are turning all the time.

i remember my other machine doing the same when i first got that going but after first use  in soil the tines would stop when i released the lever for tension.

just to confuse the situation further you see

cheers
